DR ANDREW CHENG

MBBS, BDS, FRACDS (OMS)

Dr Andrew Cheng is a fully qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He obtained his dental and medical degrees from the University of Adelaide and has obtained extensive experience in oral surgery, oral pathology and dental implant surgery.

In 2010, he completed a clinical fellowship in the Ninth People’s Hospital where he gained experience in complex orthognathic surgery, computer assisted maxillofacial surgery, endoscopic technique in temporomandibular joint and salivary gland pathology, navigational cranial-maxillofacial surgery, facial trauma, head and neck oncology and micro- reconstructive surgery. He has worked with and learned from leading surgeons in oral and maxillofacial and plastic reconstructive surgery around the world.

Dr Cheng completed the comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgery training program from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons in 2014. As part of his training, he has worked in the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Shanghai, and Wuhan.

He is currently a visiting Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Royal Adelaide Hospital where he is part of the head and neck oncology group in managing oral cancer. He is actively involved in the post graduate and undergraduate training of surgical trainees, medical and dental students.

Dr Cheng Chaired the ANZOMS (Australia and New Zealand Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons) from 2016 – 2023. He is part of the Medical Advisory Committee at Ashford Hospital and previously held this position at Tennyson Day Hospital.

Dr Cheng is the Director of Oral Maxillofacial training in SA and TAS and is a senior lecturer at the University of Adelaide. He regularly goes on overseas volunteer missions to help Cambodian orphans with their dental needs and Cambodian patients with complex oral and maxillofacial surgical problems. Dr Brenton Hearn has been a dedicated practitioner in the field of dentistry since 1976, bringing over four decades of experience to his practice. He became a qualified oral surgeon in 1996, demonstrating his commitment to advancing his skills and knowledge in oral health care. Dr Hearn's extensive training began in the United Kingdom, where he developed a solid foundation in dental principles at the University of London. His pursuit of excellence continued with further training at the University of Adelaide, where he expanded his expertise in Dentistry, Medicine, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

In addition to his formal education, Dr Hearn has undergone advanced training in implantology, enabling him to provide his patients with cutting-edge solutions for tooth replacement. He possesses substantial experience in various areas of oral surgery, including dentoalveolar procedures, wisdom teeth extractions, and oral pathology, allowing him to address a wide range of patient needs with precision and care.

Dr Hearn is deeply dedicated to the well-being of his patients. PROF ALASTAIR GOSS

Emeritus Professor, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Emeritus Professor Goss is a fully qualified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon who joined Advanced Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the beginning of 2023. Prior to that he conducted his own specialist practice on North Terrace. His particular interests and skill set is in temporomandibular disorders, orofacial pain management, nerve injuries, orofacial pathology & the resolution of complex problems. He has retired from performing major surgery.

Professor Goss’ primary career over the last half century has been as a distinguished Academic. He has taught most South Australian dentists so your dentist knows him! He still teaches surgery, medicine, pathology and pain online. Prof Goss is an active researcher of intractable problems with some 300 peer reviewed papers and books. He is on several Editorial & Reviewing Boards nationally and internationally and currently is Editor of the Australasian Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Concurrent with his Academic responsibilities he was also Director of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Besides his clinical consultant duties, he was also a Consultant to the Chronic Pain Unit, the Head & Neck Cancer Clinic and the Adelaide Children’s Hospital. He is currently an Emeritus Consultant Surgeon at the RAH

Professor Goss has held numerous executive positions with several national and international organisations for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry. Currently he is the Temporomandibular Joint Replacement Advisor to the National Orthopaedic Joint Replacement Registry. He is also Honorary Research Advisor to the National Dental Implant Registry. Professor Goss also provides independent advice on Medico Legal matters on referral by lawyers at E Reports, Pirie Street, Adelaide. Professor Goss also conducts independent medico legal investigations via NextHealth and MLCOA.
