AOMS is committed to safeguarding the privacy and personal information of patients and staff in line with our obligations under The Privacy Act 1998, ensuring that people who come into contact with the day surgery have the right to have their privacy respected. This is achieved by ensuring that all personal information that AOMS holds is secure and protected from unauthorised access, disclosure or misuse.

What information do we collect about patients and why?

AOMS collection personal information including name, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, private health insurance and Medicare details for administrative and accounting purposes. 

We collect your personal information for the primary purpose of providing our services and care to you, providing information to our clients and consulting surgeons and occasionally marketing. We may also use your personal information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure.

We use your personal data to provide and improve the service and care you receive. We may also use your personal information to communicate with you by email, regarding patient surveys and feedback only with your consent.

By using our service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

When we collect personal information, we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.

Retention of Your Personal Data

AOMS will retain your personal data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your personal data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies.

How safe in your personal information?

The practice holds all records electronically and takes all reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We manage our IT systems with appropriate processes and systems to ensure data is not lost and if we store data offsite (e.g. in Cloud facilities) we only use facilities that comply with the Australian Privacy Principles.

AOMS will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and no transfer of your personal data will take place to an organization or a country unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of your data and other personal information.

Our Internet Service Provider records the following information for statistical purposes to help us improve our external communications: your server address; your domain or top-level domain name (eg. practice.com, .gov, .au, etc); date and time of visit, pages accessed, documents downloaded; previous sites visited.

Our web site only uses session cookies and only during a search query of the web site. The session cookie is destroyed at the end of your browsing session and we do not keep any identifying information.

Disclosure of Your Personal Data

Under certain circumstances, AOMS may be required to disclose your personal data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency).
